Every year, on the fourth Sunday in July, over 4,000 visitors flock to Cairanne for the annual Wine Discovery Trail - a popular event where winemakers showcase their treasures and share their experiences with villagers and visitors alike.

This year we were delighted to welcome the Préfet of Vaucluse, Mr Bertrand Gaume, to open the Fête.

On Sunday July 22nd 2018, between 4 and 10 pm, a host of wine lovers, from the knowledgeable to the novice, descended on Cairanne to follow the now-famous trail. A Provençal market featuring local artists and craftsmen added to the festivities, linking the top of the village to the bottom.

As always, there were 4 main hubs of activity, with 30 domaines and wine houses providing dedicated wine-tasting areas, food trucks for refreshment and live music to add to the fun, friendly atmosphere.

And as always, this was a perfect opportunity for winegrowers to showcase their appellation wines and chat to visitors about this latest addition to the Côtes du Rhône Cru family.

The highlight of the event came in the shape of Chef Cyril Glémot from Coteaux et Fourchettes restaurant, who joined sommelier Virginie Faure in hosting 3 food/wine pairing workshops. It was a fascinating occasion for all chefs and food-lovers; everyone was able to learn about choosing the right wine to pair with their favourite foods.

Finally, the brave souls who made it to the top of the hill could stop to admire stunning views over the Cairanne hillsides and enjoy a last glass of wine in the shade of the mulberry trees, while old and young alike passed the time playing the traditional wooden games provided.

Next year’s Fête du Vin is set to take place on Sunday July 28th 2019, and promises even more colour, music, friendship and fun! Be sure to save the date.
